The 2021 NFL regular season kicks off in less than three hours, and bettors are all over Thursday night’s Dallas Cowboys vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers opener.

When Cowboys vs. Buccaneers odds opened waayyy back in May, Tampa Bay was just a 6.5-point favorite.

That spread had been steadily bet to Tampa -8 as recently as 10:17 a.m. ET today before more Bucs money began flooding the market.

With more bettors getting down on Tom Brady & Co. in the hours leading to kickoff, this spread has ticked up to -9 and -9.5 (click here for Live NFL Week 1 odds), depending on the sportsbook.

No matter what line you do use, the Buccaneers are by far the biggest favorites of NFL Week 1, easily eclipsing the San Francisco 49ers (-7.5 at the Detroit Lions) and the Los Angeles Rams (-7.5 vs. the Chicago Bears).

For those wondering, big underdogs tend to perform well in NFL Week 1.

According to our Bet Labs software, Week 1 dogs of a least 7.5 points are 23-11 (67.6%) against the spread (ATS) since 2005.

It’ll now be interesting to monitor whether the Cowboys vs. Buccaneers spread touches 10, an important number in NFL betting and one that could entice a flood of Dallas buyback due to the sheer value available.

Should this line eventually reach double-digits, it’ll be just the 15th Week 1 spread to do so since 2005.

While the same size is small, dogs of at least 10 points are 10-5 ATS in those matchups.
