The U.S. Open was suspended on Thursday night as the first round at Torrey Pines was delayed more than an hour due to fog.
Unfortunately on Friday, we could see a bit of the same.
The fog created softer conditions early before the greens sped up as the round went on. Russell Henley took advantage en route to a 4-under round, which bested the early wave of golfers. Only Louis Oosthuizen reached that number in the afternoon, but the South African still has two holes to play.

Knowing the playing conditions is crucial for betting golf, especially during the tournament when targeting live odds. If the morning is easier than the afternoon based on weather, it could pay off to target someone further down the board with an early tee time. If there’s no weather advantage either way, it helps to know that before making your bet as well.

Patchy fog is expected in the morning until about 11 a.m. local time. Will that result in another delay? Possible. But the fog will also create slightly cooler temperatures around 65 degrees.
Those teeing off early will miss out on the uptick in wind as well. For anyone playing before 11 a.m. winds are expected to reach just 5 mph. Those could reach double-digits by the afternoon, with the potential height of wind gusts coming in around 2 p.m. local time. That’s also when the temperature should be at its highest of 70 degrees.
