The last time we saw Matthew Wolff compete in a golf tournament, he missed the cut at the Masters. That’s not scaring bettors away this week at the American Express.
Wolff is receiving the most bets and total dollars wagered at BetMGM, according to data released by the sportsbook. Ten percent of all outright bets made are on Wolff, making him the biggest liability for the sportsbook.
There’s a large gap between Wolff and the second-most-bet golfer this week, Abraham Ancer. Ancer has been popular among bettors and DFS players, but he’s still searching for his first win on the PGA Tour. He’s taking 4.2% of bets, just ahead of Scottie Scheffler at 3.9%.
Wolff is +2800 at BetMGM. Ancer is +2500. Scheffler (+1600) is second on the oddsboard to Patrick Cantlay (+1400). Jon Rahm entered as the favorite but withdrew from the tournament on Monday.
Scheffler and Wolff are both featured on Jason Sobel and Peter Jennings’ Ultimate DFS Lineup this week.
Rickie Fowler’s last top-10 finish came at this tournament a year ago, and bettors are backing him hoping for more success. He carries the third-most liability behind Wolff and Adam Hadwin.
Brooks Koepka returns to the Tour for the first time since the first week in December. He started the season on a good note with top-7 finishes in two of his first three starts before missing the cut at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. He ranks fourth in the field in total handle at BetMGM.
