Stephen Curry’s scoring ability has been on video game levels for years. But there’s something different about him this season.

Curry led the NBA in scoring, averaging 32 points per game, and has looked like Kobe Bryant in 2006 at some points of the season — specifically during the past 24 games. Over that stretch, Curry has averaged 36.0 points per game shooting 49% from the field and 43% on 3-pointers (14.8 attempts).

Curry has managed to move beyond unstoppable as a scorer and into the inevitable territory — you know it’s coming, and there’s just nothing you can do about it.

Oddsmakers also know it was coming and have been pushing Curry’s points props higher and higher each night. At the beginning of this run, March 29, the over/under on Curry’s point total against the Chicago Bulls was 27.5. He scored 32. On April 6, against the Milwaukee Bucks, it was listed at 28.5 points. He score 41.

From that point on, the average line on Curry’s point total was 34.1, and in that span he’s posted a 50-point game, six 40-point games and has hit the over on his total 11 times in a 20-game span.

Tonight the stakes get even higher. Curry and the Golden State Warriors face the Memphis Grizzlies in a single-elimination game for No. 8 seed in the West and his point total has hit 38.5.

Curry already has three of the highest points prop marks this season with the league’s second-leading scorer Bradley Beal falling right behind him. In those two games, Curry went over the 36.5-point prop and pushed on the 36-point prop.

Highest Points Prop -2020-21 NBA Season
Date Player
Tonight Stephen Curry – 38.5
Jan. 27 Bradley Beal – 36.5
May 3 Stephen Curry – 36.5
May 10 Stephen Curry – 36

Tonight’s season-high number comes on the heels of Curry scoring 37 points against the Los Angeles Lakers and hitting the over by half a point against the No. 1 defensive team in the NBA. A light evening for the chef.

Can Curry work his magic one more time and get the Warriors into the playoffs? Only time will tell. But Curry has shown in this run that some things in life truly are inevitable.
