The Pacers had their collective backs against the wall when they faced the Charlotte Hornets in Tuesday’s single-elimination NBA Play-In game between the No. 10 and No. 9 teams in the Eastern Conference.
They responded to that pressure with their second-highest scoring game of the season (though technically the game is not a regular season or playoff game) putting up 144 points on the Hornets to keep their postseason hopes alive.
The Pacers entered the play-in games with +320 odds to make the playoffs and despite another debilitating injury to one of their top players (Caris LeVert is out 10-14 days due to COVID protocols) they open Thursday’s game as 3.5-point dogs on the road in Washington.
For the season, the Pacers are 8-11 straight up and 9-10 against the spread as road underdogs.

The Wizards pushed the accelerator through the floor just to make it to the play-in games, but in their first matchup against the Boston Celtics, they seemed to be gassed. With an opportunity to grab the No. 7 seed in the East, the Wizards’ offense stalled out and they put up their lowest scoring game since April 3.
As a team the Wizards shot 3-for-21 from 3-point range and their star duo of Russell Westbrook (20 points) and Bradley Beal (22 points) were outscored by Jayson Tatum, who had 50 points in the game. All eyes will be on Beal’s hamstring ahead of Thursday’s must-win game as he tries to play through the nagging injury.
The Wizards were -500 to make the playoffs ahead of Tuesday night’s matchup and based on our public betting data, 63% of betting tickets were on them to win outright despite being road underdogs in Boston.
