Not many people care who wins an NFL preseason game.

The fans at home don’t care, nor the ones in the stands. There are no preseason standings, no trends that carry over into the season. Heck, it seems like many of the coaches don’t even care too much about wins and losses in the preseason.

Take Bill Belichick for example.

Belichick may well be the greatest NFL coach of all time, but he sure doesn’t seem to bring his magic to the preseason. As our own Chris Raybon pointed out, betting against Belichick in the preseason has been profitable, with his opponents going 32-29-4 against the spread since 2004:

And hey, you know who might actually care about getting a W? The Eagles and new head coach Nick Sirianni.

Sirianni’s Eagles came out strong in the first half of their preseason opener but blew the win late, and you know the Eagles would love to win one for the gipper and get their head coach his first ever W.

This is an opportunity to bet against Belichick in the preseason and to bet on the motivated team that actually cares about the final score. I’ll play that angle, though on the moneyline instead of the spread, and ride the Eagles to a win — especially at plus juice (check real-time NFL odds here).
