The Pacers head to Washington to take on the Wizards for the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference.

Washington got here after losing a slugfest against the Celtics in Boston on Tuesday. Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook were inefficient, but their combined 42 points were sorely needed regardless of how they were collected.

The Atlantic Division rivals battled hard in a game with an old-school feel. While the Beal-Westbrook duo was extremely impressive, it was nowhere near the level of play needed to overcome the elite effort put up by Jayson Tatum.

The 23-year old Tatum dominated to the tune of 50 points, including a perfect 17-for-17 night from the free-throw line.

The Pacers don’t have any wing player capable of going off on Washington like Tatum did, even less so without Caris LeVert, who is out due to health protocols.

Expect to see Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon be more aggressive as he plays in his second game since returning from a 10-game absence due to a hamstring injury.

Domantas Sabonis and the aforementioned Brogdon were dominant in controlling the flow of the action in their first play-in game vs. Charlotte. They combined for 17 assists, helping the Pacers put 144 points on a young Hornets team.

Both teams have shown big-time offensive capabilities over time. The Pacers are coming off of a scorching-hot 144-point offensive performance, while the Wizards are coming off of a game in which both teams shot below 44% from the field. So which direction will Thursday’s game go?
