Clubs starting to make respective moves up the Premier League table go at it Monday when Leeds United welcomes Crystal Palace to Elland Road.

The high-flying Peacocks had their proverbial wings clipped last time out, suffering a 2-1 home setback to Everton. The defeat snapped a two-game winning streak for Leeds, which sits tied with Southampton and its current opponent on 29 points.

On the other side, the Eagles have strung together two consecutive victories entering this fixture. Crystal Palace earned a 1-0 shutout against Wolves before its 2-1 triumph over Newcastle in this past week’s slate of matches.

Needless to say, both clubs will have their sights set on securing all three points to improve their standing on the table.

Leeds

Life back in England’s top flight continues to be a whirlwind for manager Marcelo Bielsa and the Peacocks.

Solid wins against Wolves and powerful Leicester City were bookended by disappointing defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton, which really defines their season in a nutshell.

Leeds might be the definition of inconsistent, but it has been a breath of fresh air to the league during this global pandemic. The Peacocks always put up a fight, which has them in the mix for a result every time they hit the pitch.

Statistically, Leeds continues to be one of the league’s better offensive (and worst defensive) outfits in the advanced metrics. The Peacocks sit on a solid 33.2 expected goals , but disappointing 37.7 expected goals against, resulting in a subpar -4.5 xGDiff and -0.21 xGDiff/90 minutes.

Crystal Palace

The Eagles are almost a carbon copy of the Peacocks when it comes to inconsistency and results. The only main differences come via the fact Crystal Palace scores less and gives up fewer goals than its counterpart.

Standout Wilfried Zaha has led the line all season for the Eagles, but he will miss out on this affair after being forced to sidelined with a hamstring injury during the second half of the win over Newcastle.

Losing a high-caliber performer like Zaha, who leads the way with nine goals this season, is going to put manager Roy Hodgson and his lads in a tight spot.

When comparing stats with Leeds, Crystal Palace’s overall numbers really depict a side destined to finish mid-table at the completion of the season.

The Eagles are on 19.4 expected goals and paltry 30.6 expected goals against that result in a decent -11.2 xGDiff and -0.51 for xGDiff/90 minutes.

Betting Analysis & Picks

This really has the makings of being a wide-open affair. Neither team is in any danger of being relegated, so I anticipate both getting after it from the start.

That said, I will play Leeds to surpass 1.5 goals on the team total as my top play. The Peacocks have scored at least twice in each of their last five home confrontations with the Eagles, so I back that trend continuing in this spot.

I will also get on the total to go over the number as well to round out the plays.

There have been at least three goals in Leeds’ last five matches against Crystal Palace at Elland Road across all competitions. Throw in the fact Crystal Palace has scored at least one goal in its last three games, and you have to like your chances of hitting this wager.

Picks: Leeds — Team Total Over 1.5 Goals (-148) | Total Over 2.5 Goals (-157)
