Longshot Georgia Tech Moves to ACC Tournament Final After Virginia’s Positive COVID-19 Test

Georgia Tech was an ACC longshot a week ago. Now the Yellow Jackets are one win away from causing headaches for sportsbooks.

Georgia Tech advanced to the championship game of the ACC Tournament after the semi-final matchup against Virginia was canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test within the program. Listed at 25-1 to win the tournament when lines opened, the Yellow Jackets the top liability at multiple books.

BetMGM moved Georgia Tech from 25-1 to win it all to 10-1 after the team received more bets to win the tourney than any other team at 24.7%. The Yellow Jackets took the third-most money to win, behind Florida State and Virginia.

PointsBet moved GT down to +700 when 24% of bets came in on them to win the tournament, also the most of any team. GT was the second-most bet team at DraftKings.

Action Network college basketball experts Collin Wilson and Mike Randle each gave out Georgia Tech at +2500 as a best bet to win the ACC Tournament earlier this week.

Josh Pastner’s team is on fire having won seven games in a row, not including the no-contest it’ll receive against Virginia. The Yellow Jackets finished 11-8 in conference play, including two losses to Virginia in the regular season.

They’ll now meet the winner of Florida State and North Carolina, who play on Friday.

This is the second cancelation of the ACC Tournament. Duke was forced out of the tournament after two wins due to a COVID-19 positive test within the program. Some books refunded Duke’s future tickets, some did not. Read more about that here.
