There was plenty of confusion Wednesday afternoon when the Las Vegas Golden Knights announced they had signed a “sports betting recommendation service.”

The deal is said to be with UpickTrade.com, a site that sells betting picks, and gives the Mexico-based tout service in-arena branding as well as a presence on the team’s official website and social media feeds.

“We are thrilled to partner with UpickTrade.com and become the first professional sports franchise to partner with a sports recommendation service,” Golden Knights Vice President of Global Partnerships Mike Mungiello said in a statement. “We are hopeful our fanbase will make UpickTrade.com a part of their sports pick betting process.”

Upicktrade.com says it has more than 6,000 clients who pay for its service, which costs $89 a month per sport.

The Action Network reached out to a team representative who said no one would be made available. A spokesperson with the NHL had no comment.

Teams have obviously been permitted to do deals with sportsbooks, but no North American team has ever done a sponsorship deal with a tout service that recommends picks.
