The Georgia Bulldogs are reportedly starting a new quarterback in place of J.T. Daniels on Saturday against UAB.

It appears it’ll be former 2018 four-star Carson Beck getting the nod in replace of Daniels, who’s dealing with a core injury following a Week 1 win over Clemson.

Georgia opened a 26.5-point favorite at DraftKings, but is all the way down to -22.5 following the news. The total, meanwhile, is listed at 44.5.

The Action Network’s Collin Wilson offered feedback regarding how the quarterback situation would affect the spread. He noted backup Stetson Bennett would be a four-point drop-off from Daniels, while Beck would warrant a seven-point downgrade.

Beck, a pro-style quarterback, won Mr. Football in Florida back in 2018. He redshirted last year, but saw some garbage time in a rout of Missouri.

Georgia stunned Clemson in the opener, 10-3, and improved to 10-5-1 against the spread under head coach Kirby Smart in neutral-site venues. The SEC contender now has the second-shortest odds to win the national title, behind Alabama.

UAB, meanwhile, is fresh off a Conference USA title under head coach Bill Clark. The Blazers are 0-4 against the number in their last four meetings against SEC opponents, but overall, the program’s been a great bet: Its 60% clip (30-20-1) against the spread since 2017 is the seventh-best mark in the entire country.

Clark and Co. typically register low-scoring contests as underdogs. UAB’s on a blistering 13-3-1 run to the under when catching points.

Saturday’s matchup is slated for 3:30 ET and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
