The heat and passion surrounding the sports memorabilia world is showing no signs of stopping.
Heritage Auctions grossed more than $30 million this weekend in sales. Two cards sold for more than $1 million — a T206 Honus Wagner ($2.5M), once owned by Joe Garagiola, and a 1969 Reggie Jackson rookie, once owned by Dmitri Young, sold for $1.02 million.
A Wayne Gretzky jersey, with the photo matched to his first home game as a rookie, went for $624,000, while an O-Pee-Chee version of his rookie card sold for $216,000, a record for the card in a PSA 9.
Michael Jordan and 1986 Fleer continued to stay hot. A PSA 10 of the Jordan rookie, which sold for a high of $738,000 in late January, sold for $588,000 in the Heritage Auction. A box of 36 packs, which hobby stores bought in 1986 for $6 each, sold for $300,000.
A photo of Jordan dunking in his seventh regular game as a Bulls player, when he scored 33 in his Madison Square Garden debut, sold for $30,000. A ticket to Jordan’s debut sold for $24,000 and one to his career high 69 point game sold for $11,400.
The earliest existing ticket to a Green Bay Packers game — a 1924 game against the Milwaukee Badgers sold for $21,000, while a ticket to the “Ice Bowl” was won for $7,500.
A ticket to Jackie Robinson’s debut sold for $40,800 and a photo of him, used to make his 1948 Leaf rookie card, sold for $360,000.
Two rings of note sold — Jake Scott’s 1972 Dolphins ring ($138,000) and Craig Hodges 1991 Bulls ring ($108,000).
