No. 10-ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world and IBF middleweight champion, Gennadiy Golovkin, makes his return to the ring after a 14-month layoff to face middleweight challenger Kamil Szeremeta Friday. GGG (40-1-1, 34 KO) will make the first defense of his IBF belt against the undefeated, but largely unproven Szeremeta (21-0, 5 KO) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

While it’s atypical for a boxer of GGG’s status to be fighting on a Friday night, it not so coincidentally coincides with the fight of his rival Canelo Álvarez, who is in action on Saturday night. There had been talk of a trilogy match between the two, but that never materialized. Instead, Szeremeta will get his mandatory shot at the 38-year-old Kazakh.

Oddsmakers see this as a huge mismatch, listing GGG as a -2500 favorite to win outright and a -600 favorite (85.71% implied odds) to get a stoppage win. For his career, Golovkin has knocked opponents out at a staggering rate — he has posted an 83.3% KO percentage through 42 career fights.

BetMGM, which typically lists a variety of total round options, has set this over/under at five rounds with the juice on the over juiced to -135 and the under at even money. While Golovkin’s knockouts haven’t been as frequent as they were in his prime, his past four KO wins have all come in the fifth round or sooner dating back to 2016.
