Friday 2021 Ryder Cup Tee Times, Schedule & Pairings, Results for USA vs. Europe

Welcome to golf’s greatest team competition: the Ryder Cup.

Three years after Europe took the cup back, Team USA has the home-course advantage in Wisconsin this week, even if the Europeans are doing all they can to earn some brownie points with the home crowd. Europe has dominated this event with seven wins in nine tries since 2000.

You can read more about the Ryder Cup format here. The first two days are pairings in foursomes (also known as alternate shot) and four-ball. Foursomes is where each team alternates shots between the two players in each pair, while four-ball involves both players in each pairing playing the hole, and the team taking the lowest score.

The home captain, in this case the United States’ Steve Stricker, chooses which will be played in the morning and then in the afternoon. That will be the foursomes.

The United States is favored in all four matches on Friday morning, with action kicking off just after 8 a.m. ET. The second Friday session begins just after 1 p.m. ET and will feature four more matches. Pairings won’t be announced until then.

There are 28 points up for grabs between the eight four-ball and alternate-shot matches on Friday and Saturday, then the 12 singles match-play fixtures on Sunday. Europe needs 14 points to retain the cup, and the U.S. needs 14 1/2 to take it back. A tie will give the cup back to Europe, too.

The United States is -200 to lift the trophy (not including the tie) at FanDuel, giving them around a 65% chance to win.

We covered Friday’s early matches here, including the opener — Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas against Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia.

This won’t be a popular take, at least in the states, but I think the Spaniards are in a good spot to start the week with a point for Europe.

Rahm and Garcia were two of the hottest golfers on TOUR to close out last season, and I think their fit and ball striking will go a long way Friday morning in the first group off at the Ryder Cup.

I mentioned in my write-up in our best bets that I wasn’t crazy about Jordan Spieth this week around Whistling Straits, as he had been struggling to find his game down the stretch. This isn’t a format or course that will let you find something if he’s still searching, and it’s a big reason why I like the slight underdogs, and in-form Spanish duo, in this foursome matchup to kick off the week.
