Waiver Wire/Streamers
James Kaprielian — Oakland Athletics
Yahoo: 38%, ESPN: 39%
Kaprielian had his best start since Aug. 20 this past week, throwing six innings of two-hit, shutout ball. His only start this coming week is at home against Seattle. The opponent is not ideal, but Kaprielian has 2.91 home ERA and is allowing a .216/.286/.380 to opposing hitters in 55 2/3 innings pitched.
If Kaprielian wants to secure a spot in the postseason rotation, a win against the Mariners would help his cause.
Reynaldo Lopez — Chicago White Sox
Yahoo: 23%, ESPN: 12%
Lopez is getting the start Wednesday against Detroit. The team’s elimination number is one, i.e. time to play the young pups. Lopez was hit hard Sept. 16 in a spot outing, but still managed seven strikeouts in four innings of work. The Tigers have a 45 Weighted Runs Created Plus (wRC+) at home against left-handed pitching this month.
Tony Gonsolin — Los Angeles Dodgers
Yahoo: 47%, ESPN: 29%
Love getting a two-start pitcher attached to one of the best offenses in baseball. Gonsolin’s first start is at Colorado, so buyer beware. His second scheduled appearance is at Arizona, so if you want to add and stash him, he has at least one good start this week.
It’s a soft week for waivers/streamers with so many teams dropping out of contention and limiting the young pitchers’ innings.
Injuries
Blake Snell and Chris Paddack are done for the season, short of a playoff berth.
The Athletics placed Daulton Jefferies on the 10-day IL with right elbow ulnar neuritis.
Alex Wood was activated from the 10-day IL and will slot back into the Giants rotation.
Shane Bieber is making a second rehab start Sunday, with the idea of pitching in the majors again this season.
Brad Keller is done for the season.
Shohei Ohtani was rumored to be done pitching for 2021, but after a bullpen September 18 he will pitch in Sunday’s game.
Brady Singer is going on the COVID-19 list.
