On a Saturday that features several conference championship games, a pair of NFL matchups and a No. 1 vs. 3 college basketball showdown, Arizona State vs. Oregon State probably isn’t on the forefront of bettors’ minds. And the weather forecast in Corvallis, Ore., is almost certainly not. But perhaps it should be.

With significant wind and rain expected throughout, this game fits a profitable betting system, and its odds could continue to move as a result.

College Football Weather Forecast: Arizona State vs. Oregon State

A 14- to 15-mph wind is being projected over the course of tonight’s game, which has been shown to be enough to affect a college football game.

Since 2005, games played in winds of 13 mph or more have gone 557-416-34 (57%) to the under. And while that’s a simple recipe, the theory makes plenty of sense.

Wind makes for greater difficulty moving the ball through the air, cutting down on big passing plays, and forcing teams to rely more heavily on the run, which in turn keeps the clock on the move more often. That means fewer overall drives, and therefore, fewer scoring chances. Field-goal kickers also face a greater challenge assuming they aren’t kicking with the wind (which isn’t going to be the case tonight).

And as if that wasn’t enough, according to the National Weather Service, tonight’s windy forecast is also accompanied by a Flood Watch in effect from 7 p.m. ET to 1 a.m. ET.

From its opening number of 57, this total fell early in the week to around 54.5, where it stood entering game day. Since then, though, it’s seen just another half-point downward tick.

That’s certainly subject to change as news of this forecast spreads (follow along with updated odds in real time here).
