Lost in the discussion of the John Deere Classic, Scottish Open and Open Championship prep is a fun celebrity tournament beginning on Friday featuring Tony Romo, Steph Curry, Aaron Rodgers and more.

The American Century Championship is a celebrity tournament which began in 1990 and will run once again this weekend at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Nevada. It’s featured mega-stars in the past such as Mario Lemieux (1998 winner), Michael Jordan and John Elway.

Participants play the 54-hole event over three days from Friday-Sunday and the tournament has used modified Stableford scoring since 2004. It’s been used in PGA TOUR events before, such as the Barracuda Championship. Golfers are assigned points in relation to strokes on each hole. Pars are worth zero points, birdies are two points and eagles are worth five. A bogey is negative-1 and double-bogey or worse is negative-3.

Betting odds haven’t been posted nationally but are available as the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas where two-time champion Tony Romo is the betting favorite at +225. Romo won back-to-back years in 2018 and 2019.

He’s ahead of defending champion and former American tennis player Mardy Fish (+250) and three-time champion and former Major League pitcher Mark Mulder (+600).

Three former participants in The Match are in the field, including newly-crowned champion Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is a longshot at 200-1, but that’s still ahead of Charles Barkley, who is listed as a whopping 10,000-1 longshot. The favorite of the group goes to Steph Curry at +1200. Curry will tee off in a group with his dad, Dell, and brother, Seth.

Annika Sorenstam is the only woman on the oddsboard at +1200, tied with Curry and MLB Hall-of-Famer John Smoltz.

In total, there are 13 golfers available to bet at the SuperBook but more than 80 celebrities will be in the field. Participants also include Justin Timberlake, Patrick Mahomes, Bills head coach Sean McDermott, CC Sabathia, Travis Kelce, Larry Fitzgerald, Roger Clemens and more.
