With the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship coming to an end, we move onto the 2021 season and the 2022 National Championship game.
The top three favorites to win college football’s most important game next year should not come as a surprise.
Alabama and Clemson enter the new season as the top favorites, each sitting at +300. Those odds come with the knowledge that both Heisman finalist quarterbacks — Mac Jones and Trevor Lawrence — will likely move to the NFL.
That means future Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young and future Tigers quarterback DJ Uiagalelei will need to step up after seeing bits of playing time last season.
In the seven years of the playoff, Clemson and Alabama have each qualified six times. The Tigers missed the first year in 2014-15. Alabama didn’t qualify last season.
Alabama and Clemson each have two titles in the first six years. Alabama can make it three with a win over Ohio State on Monday.
There are only three teams under +1000 from there: National Championship finalist Ohio State finds itself at +300, while Georgia and Oklahoma are at +800.
Perennial CFP contenders Florida (+2000), Notre Dame (+3000), and Texas A&M (+3000) follow despite the Gators and Fighting Irish losing multiple stars.
Notre Dame earned the final playoff spot over No. 5 Texas A&M last season.

All three of those squads finished with a .500 record or worse, with the Tigers ending at 5-5, the Nittany Lions at 4-5, and the Wolverines at 2-4.
