The college football season has begun in earnest, with massive line shifts having already taken place.
The big winners from Week 1 were Georgia and UCLA, who each won massive games Saturday that precipitously shortened their respective futures odds. No. 5 Georgia shut out No. 3 Clemson at the half, en route to a grinding 10-3 victory in Charlotte.
The Bulldogs’ odds to win the national championship went from +600 to +400 at DraftKings and from +600 to +475 at BetMGM as a result. Clemson’s odds dropped from +380 to +700 at DraftKings and from +450 to +600 at BetMGM due to its loss.
UCLA pulled off a statement 38-27 victory over No. 16 ranked LSU at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins dominated after the second quarter behind running backs Zach Charbonnet and Brittain Brown, who put together a combined 248 yards of total offense and two touchdowns.
UCLA’s odds zoomed up from +20000 to +8000 at BetMGM and from +10000 to +7500 at DraftKings after the late night Saturday game.
LSU saw its futures odds drop from +4000 down to +7500 at DraftKings.
Another notable riser was Penn State, whose odds catapulted from +8000 to +4000 at BetMGM after it beat Wisconsin, 16-10. The Nittany Lions had trailed as late as the third quarter before putting up nine unanswered points and forcing two consecutive takeaways to end the game.
Top-ranked Alabama remains a +225 favorite at DraftKings to win its fourth championship in the last seven seasons after it routed the 14th-ranked University of Miami, 44-13, on Saturday. The Crimson Tide never trailed in that game against a worthy opponent, even going up as much as 27-0 right before halftime.
Alabama’s odds shortened at BetMGM from +260 to +250 after its commanding victory. Miami’s odds went from +6000 to +10000 at DraftKings after its blowout loss.
Fourth-ranked Ohio State stayed +500, the third-best favorite to win it all at DraftKings, after a 45-31 win over Minnesota on Thursday. The Buckeyes were shaky, but pulled it off down the stretch thanks in large part to a strip-sack touchdown late in the third quarter.
Third-ranked Oklahoma saw its odds lengthen slightly from +750 to +800 at DraftKings after it barely held on to beat Tulane, 40-35, on Saturday.
No. 20 ranked Washington lost, 13-7, to Montana, which had entered the game as an astounding +1300 underdog. The loss plummeted the Huskies’ futures line from to +8000 to +15000.
