Phil Mickelson shocked the golf world once this year at a major. Can he do it again at this week’s U.S. Open to complete the career Grand Slam?
Bettors think so.
Mickelson is the most popular bet at PointsBet and the biggest liability at BetMGM to win the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines this week.
Of course, Mickelson isn’t the 200-1 underdog he was when he took down the PGA Championship. The current 50-1 number hasn’t scared gamblers away looking to make up for the FOMO of his last win.

His first in total bets at PointsBet and fourth in total dollars taken. At BetMGM, he’s third in both bets and handle but because of his price he’d prove costly for the book should he win.
Lefty already has six major championships under his belt, including three Masters wins and two PGA Championships. But he’s famously the king of runner-ups at the only major which eludes him. He’s finished second six times at the U.S. Open, most recently in 2013.
Outside of Mickelson, it’s the usual suspects seeing action at books. Jon Rahm is first in handle and second in bets at PointsBet and leads in both tickets and bets at BetMGM as the 10-1 favorite.
Brooks Koepka is the second-most popular play at BetMGM and fourth-most bet golfer at PointsBet. Xander Schauffele, looking for his first major, is top-five in popularity at both books.
PointsBet says there are currently four golfers who would force a single payout of at least $100K: Jimmy Walker, Harris English, Robby Shelton and Justin Suh. A $150 wager on Suh pays out $150K.
The biggest reported bet at PointsBet is $1,250 on Rory McIlroy to win $21,250.
Three bets at $2,000 each highlight BetMGM’s payouts: Max Homa (to win $160K), Gary Woodland ($160K), and Daniel Berger ($100K).
