It wasn’t easy but United States Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker has his 12-man roster for Whistling Straits.

The Wisconsin native will lead the Americans against Team Europe later this month (Sept. 24-26) in a quest to regain the cup, having lost in blowout fashion back in 2018 in France.

He has plenty of firepower at his disposal, with a roster that consists of 12 of the top 21 players in the world.

The six players who automatically qualified for the roster in order of points were Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay.

The next set of picks were Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau, Harris English and Jordan Spieth. Daniel Berger, who has won twice in the past 15 months, got one of the two final spots, which left Stricker with no shortage of options for his 12th man.

He eventually went with 25-year-old Scottie Scheffler, who might be the best player on the PGA TOUR without a win.

Scheffler registered three top-10 finishes in majors this year, as well finishing tied for 18th at the Masters. He was runner-up to Billy Hoschel at the WGC Match Play Invitational, as well, something that no doubt will have appealed to Stricker.

Despite having won the Ryder Cup twice this century, the Americans are a heavy favorite at -190 at DraftKings. The Europeans do not have the rankings and hype surrounding their roster, which could be filled out with veterans like Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter.

Captain Padraig Harrington will name his entire roster after this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in England.

Here’s a look at the United States roster, listed in order of their Official World Golf Ranking:
