A former first-round pick is on the move.
Former Titans wide receiver Corey Davis has agreed to a three-year, $37.5 million contract with $27 million guaranteed with the New York Jets, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday.
Davis, 26, was selected No. 5 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft from Western Michigan in spite of dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of the NFL Combine. The former All-American dealt with a hamstring injury during much of his rookie season and has been a mostly underwhelming second option for Tennessee since entering the league.
The Titans drafted A.J. Brown in 2019, who quickly eclipsed Davis as the clear-cut No. 1 option. Brown, 23, has posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in his first two years in the league and scored 11 touchdowns in 2020 (Davis has 11 career touchdowns over four seasons).
The team declined Davis’ fifth-year option heading into the 2020 NFL season. He caught 60 passes for a career-high 945 yards and five touchdowns over 12 regular-season appearances.
Davis adds star power to an underwhelming and crowded Jets’ receiving corps which consists of Jamison Crowder, Breshad Perriman, Denzel Mims and Braxton Berrios (among others). His departure likely means the Titans will have to add depth at the position behind Brown. Next up on the Tennessee depth chart are Cameron Batson, Chester Rodgers and Kalif Raymond.
Tennessee also opted to not bring back tight end Jonnu Smith, who agreed to a four-year, $50 million deal with the Patriots on Monday.
