2021 British Open Odds: Jon Rahm the Favorite Over Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson & the Field

Jon Rahm is in a tier of his own on the odds board for this week’s Open Championship as the only golfer in single-digits.

Rahm comes in this week at +800 at DraftKings fresh off a seventh-place finish at the Scottish Open in a tune-up for Royal St George’s Golf Club. No one enters in better form than the current No. 2 player in the world, who won the U.S. Open in June for his first career major championship.

Before the U.S. Open, Rahm was set to win the Memorial but a COVID test resulted in a withdraw while holding a six-shot lead entering the final round. Rahm also finished T8 at THE PLAYERS and T5 at The Masters this year.

Rahm is clear of everyone until we get to Xander Schauffele at +1800 and Brooks Koepka at +1850. Rory McIlroy is +1900 before getting into the 20’s with Jordan Spieth (+2050) and Justin Thomas (+2050).

Spieth won this tournament in 2017 at Royal Birkdale. McIlroy owns a win in 2014 and finished in a tie for second in 2018, as did Schauffele. Koepka’s best finish at this tournament is T4.

Dustin Johnson (+2200) and Viktor Hovland (+2500) round out those under +3000.

It’s not often we have to scroll this far down to find Bryson DeChambeau, but the bomber is +3500 this week. That’s below Paul Casey, Matt Fitzpatrick, Patrick Cantlay and Patrick Reed, all who land at +3000. DeChambeau has just one top-10 since winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, and has never quite figured out The Open’s unique style.

Last year’s PGA champion Collin Morikawa and European Tour stalwart Tyrrell Hatton join DeChambeau at +3500.

Two golfers looking to break through are Tony Finau and Scottie Scheffler at +4500.

With no event played in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shane Lowry is still the defending champion at +4550. He’s followed by a glut of Europeans, including Tommy Fleetwood, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Justin Rose.

The Open returns to Royal St George’s for the first time since 2011, when Darren Clarke topped Johnson and Phil Mickelson by three strokes as a 150-1 longshot.

Mickelson, who already has a major championship win this year, is +11000. Clarke is one of the longest shots on the board at 1500-1.
