Jan. 8 Update: Tyrese Haliburton was seen as a steal on draft night when he fell to the Kings at No. 12 in the NBA Draft. His early performance has further proved that.

The rookie from Iowa State is second on the Rookie of the Year oddsboard just a couple weeks into the season. He’s at +400, down from his opening number of +1600.

He trails LaMelo Ball, who’s number shortened from +325 to +175.

Magic guard Cole Anthony saw a big leap from +4500 to +1500 once Markelle Fultz went down with a Torn ACL. Opportunity has presented itself for the rookie from North Carolina.

The biggest moves belong to preseason longshots moving all the way up from 100-1 odds. Boston’s Payton Pritchard (+3000) and New York’s Immanuel Quickley (+2000) saw their odds shorten more than any other player.

Knicks’ top pick Obi Toppin dropped from +450 to +1600. Pistons first-rounder Killian Hayes fell from +1000 to +10000 after suffering a significant hip injury.

Dec. 1 Update: This year’s crop of NBA rookies will go from draft night to the regular season much faster than their predecessors, with some of the first-year players garnering significant playing time early in the season.

LaMelo Ball is expected one of those players, which is likely one of the reasons the No. 3 overall pick is the favorite (+325) to win Rookie of the Year. Ball joins a Charlotte Hornets team with interesting young pieces (Devonte’ Graham and P.J. Washington) and an established veteran in Gordon Hayward.

No. 1 overall pick Anthony Edwards (+450) enters training camp just behind Ball on the odds board and could also see a fair share of minutes on a Minnesota Timberwolves squad that features All-Stars Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell. Edwards is tied with New York Knicks forward Obi Topping for the second-best odds among rookies.

Golden State Warriors center James Wiseman (+550) is the only other rookie with odds below 10-1 and will likely have the most team success assuming the Stephen Curry and Co. can avoid any more major injuries to their core lineup.
