Unfortunately, there have already been a few notable injuries early in this Week 1 NFL slate.

The 49ers’ starting running back Raheem Mostert suffered a knee injury during San Francisco’s second drive of the game. Mostert had missed most of last season with a high ankle sprain. He is questionable to return to Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

Backup running back Elijah Mitchell then subbed in the next drive and took a 38-yard run to the house to put San Francisco up 14-7 in the second quarter.

JaMychal Hasty later added a second rushing touchdown to put the Niners up 21-10 later in the second quarter.

Another Niners running back, Trey Sermon, had already been ruled as a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game.

Mostert had been ranked as an RB11 in The Action Network’s fantasy experts’ rankings prior to the game.

The Action Network’s Sean Koerner had said prior to Mostert’s injury that he “was already a solid RB2 who is a must-start in every format. Now he is a slam dunk RB1/2 play.”

If Mostert doesn’t return, he’ll have finished Week 1 with two fantasy points on 20 rushing yards.

The 49ers closed as 9-point favorites over the Lions. The total of the game was 46.5. In their last five games as a road favorite, the Niners have gone 4-0-1 on overs.

The other notable early game injury occurred to the Washington Football Team’s starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is questionable to return with a right hip injury.

Fitzpatrick signed with Washington this offseason and had gone 3-for-6 for just 13 yards before going down.

Playoff hero Taylor Heinicke is now in at quarterback for the Football Team versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

Washington had closed as two-point favorites over Los Angeles for the clash in Maryland.

A third injury occurred to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Diontae Johnson, who went down awkwardly while blocking.

Johnson was removed from the game momentarily but soon returned.

The 25-year-old had four different injuries last year but missed only one game. The former third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft suffered last season a preseason foot injury, a toe sprain, a concussion and a lumbar sprain. It is currently unclear what he tweaked on Sunday.

Johnson has two catches for 20 yards mid-way through the second quarter of the Steelers’ game against the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills closed as 6.5-point favorites against the Steelers.

We will update this story throughout the day’s games.
