It was confirmed on Tuesday that Kawhi Leonard will miss a solid portion of the 2021-22 NBA season after having reconstructive surgery on a partially torn ACL this week.
While futures odds for the 2022 NBA title haven’t changed precipitously, the Los Angeles Clippers’ odds have gone down quite a bit. Although they opened as +800 favorites — tied for third-best in the league — their odds are now tied for eighth-best at +2000.
The Brooklyn Nets’ odds at +210 have not changed. They are far and away the favorites to win the franchise’s first title.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ odds are second-best in the NBA. Their odds have changed from +475 to +450 after the Leonard news.
The Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz are the two other teams to see their odds shorten as a result of the injury news. The Suns went from +1400 to +1300, while the Jazz’s odds moved from +1500 to +1400.
