The 76ers enter their conference semifinals series without Joel Embiid. The All-NBA center who was diagnosed with a meniscus tear in his right knee and is considered day-to-day. While the 76ers are still favorites in the series, their odds to win the conference and NBA title dropped to +900 on DraftKings compared to +650 just before Embiid got hurt.
The Sixers played 21 games this season without Embiid and were 10-11 in those games. They also won the regular season series with the Hawks 2-1, which includes a 44-point win in late April that did not feature Trae Young.
While scoring wasn’t an issue in their series clinching win against the Washington Wizards, the 76ers will have to adjust with Embiid off the floor — their Offensive Rating is 29.6 points per 100 possessions lower when he isn’t playing this postseason.
The Hawks roll into this series after a dominant win over the New York Knicks where Young truly had a coming out party in his first playoff action. Entering the series, the Hawks have the longest odds to win the East (16-1 on FanDuel), but could be a thorn in Philly’s side based on the way they played in the first round.
The Hawks will go from playing the No. 4 ranked defense in the NBA during the regular season to the No. 2 ranked defense. But the Hawks also had a top-10 offense under Nate McMillan that ranked eighth in the NBA since he took over in March.
