NASCAR at Kansas Odds, Pick: The Favorite to Bet for Sunday’s Buschy McBusch Race 400

In what is becoming a pattern this season, I’m not all that enamored with odds for Sunday’s Buschy McBusch Race 400 (… yes, that’s the real name) at Kansas Speedway.

In all seriousness, I’ve been especially conservative recently — especially at Bristol, which was the first Cup race on dirt in more than half of a century, and at Talladega, which always delivers unpredictable pack racing.

That conservative trend continues for today’s Buschy McBusch Race 400 (3 p.m. ET, FS1).

However, there is one favorite worth a bet ahead of Sunday’s race.

Kyle Larson (+650) to Win

Over the three races run at 1.5-mile circuits this season (Homestead, Las Vegas and Atlanta), the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy has been nothing short of dominant.

At those three races, Larson has the best average finish (including a win at Vegas), has run the most Fastest Laps, has led the most laps with the best Average Running Position and the best Driver Rating.

To be fair, Kansas has some differences to those three tracks. In fact, Alex Bowman recently said that Kansas’ surface has worn to the point where the track is getting similar to Chicagoland Speedway, which is no longer on the Cup Series circuit.

If Bowman is correct, that should bode well for Larson’s chances as well. From 2017-19 at Chicago, Larson posted finishes of fifth, second and second, while running the fourth-most fast laps and posting the second-best driver rating.

And remember: That was while driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, which wasn’t nearly as quick as the Hendrick Motorsports cars have been on 1.5-mile tracks this season.

Larson must start deep in the field after a blown engine early in last week’s race relegated to him to a last-place finish at Talladega. Nonetheless, he should have the speed to pick his way through the field — even at a track like Kansas Speedway where passing can be difficult.
