West Ham United has one simple goal the rest of the Premier League season: finish in the top four and lock up a spot in next season’s Champions League.

The Hammers get another chance to move closer to realizing that dream, albeit a fleeting one, come Monday when they travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley in a crucial match for both sides.

West Ham enters this contest following a devastating 1-0 loss to Chelsea last time out. The defeat left the Hammers six points behind the Blues, who hold the fourth and final UCL spot. Obviously, every match from here on out is a must-win situation for West Ham.

Unlike its guests, Burnley earned perhaps its biggest win of the season in its impressive 4-0 road shutout against Wolves at Molineux Stadium. Chris Wood lit up Wolverhampton’s defense, scoring a hat trick in the opening half to push the Clarets nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Burnley

With things looking awfully bleak, manager Sean Dyche needed to get his squad back in the right mindset after they dropped three consecutive matches and started flirting with potential drop-zone disaster.

Fortunately for Burnley and its supporters, Dyche was able to muster an inspired effort from the Clarets against Wolverhampton last time out that snapped the skid and generated a much-needed three points.

The Clarets, who have had a season that probably hope will soon be over with as they sit in 16th place in the table, held a 2.1-0.3 xG advantage over Wolves. It was just the second time in their last nine games they’ve won the xG battle.

West Ham

If you asked me which club I thought has overperformed this season in England’s top flight, I’d have the Hammers in my top-two clubs. I’d have my beloved Leeds United right along side them.

David Moyes always seems to get a lot of flack at whichever club he’s in charge of, but you have to give the veteran manager credit for what he’s done at West Ham this season. The fact the Hammers are in the top five at the moment, with a chance to reach the UCL (a spot in the Europa League is all but locked up) this late in the season must be respected.

That home defeat against Chelsea was obviously a tough pill for West Ham to swallow, but this match presents a perfect opportunity to get back to its winning ways. Jesse Lingard, who has been dealing with a knock, is slated to return, which should be a huge boost to the Hammers’ attack going forward.

Betting Analysis & Pick

West Ham had to be disappointed in that crushing defeat against Chelsea last time out, which now puts it in a spot where a victory is the only result to continue its pursuit of a top-four finish.

As for Burnley, that huge triumph against Wolves almost assured them safety and a spot in the league next season. With that in mind, I firmly believe this could be a prime letdown spot for the Clarets and will fade them despite that impressive road win.
