The 2021 NBA trade deadline is heating up! We’re tracking every move on deadline day, including how futures odds could be impacted with Lonzo Ball reportedly on his way out of New Orleans.

Trade Details

The Dallas Mavericks have acquired JJ Redick and Nicolo Melli for two role players and a second-round pick.

Redick Traded to the Mavericks Analysis

Dallas tried to balance its roster this season, opting for more defensive-minded players in James Johnson, Jason Richardson, and Wes Iwundu. But they’ve been better the last two seasons with all-offense, defense be damned. And so they traded for Redick and Melli.

Melli has barely played this season and shot 19% from deep in his limited minutes, but may get more chances with the Mavs’ second unit. Redick, obviously, brings what Redick is known for, shooting.

Dallas can roll out lineups with Luka Doncic, Redick, Josh Richardson, Maxi Kleber and Kristaps Porzingis in a five-out scheme.

He’s at least a willing defender even if he’s not as spry as he used to be. He’s a veteran who Rick Carlisle can trust, and helps what has been an oddly off-target team in terms of 3-point shooting.

How the Trade Impacts Odds

The Dallas Mavericks went from 50-1 to win the NBA title on Wednesday to 40-1 after the trade deadline at DraftKings.
